Wallows
After 3 years, Wallows returned for their ‘Tell me that it’s over’ Tour, named after their sophomore album and played a sold out show at the o2 Academy in Birmingham.
Two lamps lit up either side of the stage and the crowd were full of energy as the room turned to black and the band took the stage. They opened with ‘I don’t want to talk’, the room of fans matching Minnette as he sung the chorus and erupted in cheers as he played the harmonica, a great edition to the song.
‘Especially you’ kept the energy up with an indie rock feel, Lemaster and Minette sung together, their voices complimenting one another as they moved about the stage. The coloured lights flashed to the beat of the song, another cleverly thought out addition to the set.
‘Sun Tan’ included a trumpet towards the end of the song, beginning as a solo and Preston shortly joined in on the drums, this made the live version of the song more interesting and it didn’t stop there. The song slowly transitioned in to a cover of ‘That’s what makes you beautiful’ by One Direction which the audience particularly enjoyed.
The band took time to interact with fans both Minnette and Lemasters jumped off the stage waving and smiling.
‘Pictures of girls’ included a guitar solo adding to the energy even more which the audience was replicating.
They included ‘Marvelous’ on the set list which Minnette added to with a tambourine which accidentally got thrown off the stage, nearly hitting a fan as he enthusiastically played it. Thankfully nobody was hurt and Minnette spent the rest of the song laughing.
The energy decreased slightly as phone lights illuminated the room and ‘Guitar Romantic Search Adventure’ played. The vocals accompanied by the lights made for a dreamy feel before the encore.
The band re-entered the stage to finish off the show with their 2019 hit ‘Are you Bored Yet?’, a perfect energising song to end the night.
Through their lights and set, immense stage presence and added instrumentals, Wallows had an incredible, visually interesting show.
They certainly didn’t leave anyone bored but wanting more instead.
