Pierce the Veil have made their return.

After six years, Pierce the Veil are finally back with their powerful single ‘Pass the Nirvana’.

The track incorporates a heavy bass line and is very guitar driven throughout. The instrumentals are what make this song stand out to me. It is unique for Pierce the Veil but also unique to any recent releases I’ve heard. The drums help to balance the feeling of angst with a more mellow tone in the verse, creating a mixture of contrasting emotions. Vic Fuentes said ‘the song represents a euphoric detachment from all of that anxiety and

stress and about finding some form of peace’ when discussing this new track.

Vic still has his iconic high-pitched vocals, but his screams seem more polished accompanied by a perfect build-up of guitar, bass, and drums leading up to the chorus.

Personally, I preferred their more descriptive and story-based lyrics from some of their previous releases. This time they have opted for simpler and more relevant lyrics concerning current events adding an element of politics and rebellion which is reflected in the sound.

Overall, this song is raw and energising. Not many songs are worth waiting six years for but this one is a release I particularly enjoyed.

After this, it will be interesting to see where this new direction takes them, the style of any upcoming music seems very unpredictable.
